The Archives of Infinity contain the source to all knowledge in the universe. Residing in Paradise, it appears as an orchard from which all knowledge—creation to the forthcoming end—can be learned by eating the fruit from its glowing trees. 

Souls in Paradise utilize the Archives to learn how to be better individuals and understand existence and all it has to offer. However, there are a few things that are restricted to all souls. Forbidden to access the knowledge of universal events like the apocalypse, a very special orchard with ripe and golden apples contain the hidden secrets of Order and Chaos.

The fabled Greek god of war, the symbol of Ares mysteriously appears on Dante’s forearms like tattoos in the afterlife, granting him supernatural powers. It is a mystery as to why he has such scars. Ares is a well-known character of heavenly lore, yet he does not exist amongst the other angels of Paradise. His story is locked away in the forbidden orchard of the Archives.

Archdemon of Heresy, Baphomet is perched upon a throne of carcasses. Obsessed with sacrificial offerings, its loyal heretics are constantly presenting Baphomet with its next victim. Baphomet’s unique power to silence heavenly magic radiates throughout the temple of Leviathan, using it to weaken its opponents. Each sacrifice is instantly hollowed with every completed ritual.

Archdemon of Gluttony, Beelzebub appears as a shadowy figure made of a swarm of flies. Beelzebub consumes sorrowful souls by transforming into a great, gaping void. It will eat them whole unto oblivion. A soul that is consumed by Beelzebub becomes instantly hollowed, unable to retain any recollection of their former self upon rebirth.

Beelzebub partners with Cerberus every now and then like a master with their dog. They make a ferocious duo while on the hunt in these lands of putrescence.

Archdemon of Violence, Belial summons a legion of shadow warriors at will. Its obsession with conquering its enemies led it to become one of Hell’s most esteemed archdemons. Well respected and feared, Belial can harness the river Phlegethon to expand its physical form.

Dressed in blackened papal garb, Belial constantly mocks the leaders of religions around the world. In this form, Belial holds back much of its true strength. When harnessing the river of blood it can grow tenfold in size and then consume its prey, hollowing them instantly.

Ambassador of Hell, Cacus is a fire-breathing centaur-dragon that scorches the deceivers of Fraud circling the central spire of the Malebolge. This apex predator is immune to heat and guards its lair’s skies. As Dante and Virgil descend from Violence into Fraud, it is Cacus who destroys the colossus Geryon.

Accessing Cacus’ lair requires a powerful fire spell. Within the realm of thieves, this is particularly dangerous to anyone seeking entry, for their light draws unwanted attention.

Ambassador of Hell, Cerberus guards the exit to the gates of damnation. Every once in a while, the hellhound will descend to Gluttony to feast on fat souls. Its eyes are paralyzing to any soul that makes direct contact, allowing the beast to easily eat its prey.

While in Gluttony, Cerberus is accompanied by a very powerful archdemon: Beelzebub. They normally hunt together for sport when Cerberus is feeling bored.

In opposition to Order, the faction of Chaos is the entropy to all existence. As powerful as Order itself, Chaos continues to sleep until it is time to awaken amidst unrest among the realms of the afterlife. Archdemon of Limbo, Charon governs Limbo and judges all incoming souls as it ferries them across the river Acheron. With its scythe, it pushes the ferry across the river in order to take damned souls to their final resting place. Here, they will be sent to their respective circles based on their crimes in life. Should a soul rebel, Charon will cut them down into the river of woe.

The final realm of the Inferno. Here sits the Dark Lord upon a throne of ice trapped within the middle of this wintery lake surrounded by frozen souls. The closer to the center, the more treacherous the deed. Satan continuously fans his wings, creating a blizzard across the lakeís surface. There is no way a soul can reach Satan without freezing from the subzero temperatures.

Enacted by Chaos, a soul lives on forever in the afterlife with one caveat: they must protect the integrity of their soul or else risk fracturing it as the curse consumes their conscious selves. When a soul dies in the afterlife, they are reborn losing a part of themselves each and every time. This fracture is irreversible.

When a soul is too fractured they lose their mental capacity and, after too many fractures, turn hollow. In this state, a soul can no longer think and only exists as a shell with feral instincts. Demons revel in the destruction of a conscious soul and have little interest in consuming hollowed ones. To them, hollowed souls are distasteful. Instead, demons primarily use hollowed souls to do their evil bidding in search of other souls to consume. They instill a dark parasite within them, turning them into demons themselves. Hollowness is an unending state of oblivion.

Son of incest and a soldier of a flawed ideal, Dante is the victim of unfortunate circumstances ever since he was an infant. Betrayed by his family, Dante ran away from home initially finding comfort in the Nazi regime when they took him in as one of their own. Over time, Dante secretly questioned the Reich’s teachings but did as he was told in fear of the Nazis’ wrath.

Unable to find a way toward a better life, Dante planned on running away yet again and beginning life anew with the only person who ever truly loved him: Elaina. His inability to commit to their escape at the very end foiled these intentions, leading to a tragic death for he and his faithful lover.

Dante later discovers that his destiny is much bigger than he ever wanted it to be. With newfound determination to find salvation to redeem himself and his past, Dante will stand up to the devil himself to escape the clutches of Hell.

The half-way point of Hell, the infernal city of Dis separates Upper Hell (the sins of incontinence) from Nether Hell (the sins of intent). Within Dis lies the temple of Leviathan, home of the heretics. Hollowed souls gather here in the city, ripe for the picking by demons all over the Inferno. These hollowed souls roam and sack any wanderer onsite. Dante and Virgil witness just how hostile these feral bodies can be upon their rough landing at the city’s harbor. Hollowed souls are severely disfigured from the abusiveness their bodies endured beforehand. They walk in shambles, if they are even able to. Their lungs are collapsed and filled with smoke. If they wander too close to the heretical temple, they will combust like balloons filled with too much air.

Morgana’s home. On the night of February 13th, 1945, Allied bombers dropped over one thousand tons of incendiary and highly explosive bombs upon the city. Dresden was largely destroyed, and so too was Morgana’s home.

Dante’s lover, Elaina is “the light” to Dante’s dark world. Dante had no idea that his newly-wedded wife was hiding refugees during the war.

In one last search before deserting the war, Dante discovers a star of David within her familyís home. Elaina’s mother attacks Dante in an attempt to defend her household, but it leads to their untimely demise.

Elaina’s soul ascends to Paradise, becoming a keeper of the Archives where she devotes her existence to the protection of celestial knowledge.

The apparition of Satan, Evil is the elusive spirit that roams the world in an attempt to persuade good people into committing acts of malice. In the everlasting cycle of life and death, Evil is there to counter the balance of Order’s good will.

Evil is very interested in Morgana and Dante. He held tightly to the soul of Adam, manipulating and convincing him to perform horrific deeds such as murdering his eldest daughter, Isabelle, and impregnating Morgana herself.

Evil is the reason Morgana’s life is full of unending turmoil. As the arbiter of Hell, Evil’s plan to enact war with Paradise is always in motion and will do everything he can to realize this mission.

The eighth circle of the Inferno and the third circle of Nether Hell. Fraud is the deepest and most complex against all the other circles. It is divided into ten mini-circles known as the Malebolge. As one proceeds deeper into Fraud, the air becomes denser and more poisonous. Beginning as a thick fog, the wanderer will notice the air progressively turning into a sort of smog until it becomes outright smoke the closer they get to the center.

A spire sits in the middle, where an elevator extends into the realm of Treachery. The rivers of the Inferno are connected to the spire from the outer reaches of the Malebolge by aqueducts and feed downwards into the final circle. Surrounding the spire exists an exorbitant amount of demons and archdemons, eager to turn their captives into mindless hollows.

Ambassadors of Hell, the gargoyle-like Furies protect the gates to the city of Dis. They seek and destroy any traveling soul along the Styx in an effort to preserve the disparity between the sins of incontinence and intent.

At first glance, Geryon seems to be just a giant sculpture of a fabled bird: the roc. However, it is discovered to be a mobile colossus. The only way to descend from the circles of Violence into Fraud is to find this secretive entity and ride it into the depths of the Malebolge. Hidden under the Sands of Abominations, revealing Geryon requires enormous power to awaken it from its deep slumber. Geryon was created by Order to secure the last circles of Malice from any wandering soul who shouldnít be there harnessing a stone of Chaos. Only a heavenly sage or angel can awaken the creature by using the magic of Paradise.

The third circle of the Inferno. The most disgusting level of the Inferno, Gluttony is the realm of sinners who consumed selfishly at the cost of others well-being. The fluids of excrement from Lust rain down upon these souls as they burn from the acidic basins of bile littered all around them. Mountains of detritus make it hard to get away from the demons that inhabit this realm while giant worms eat their way through the ground and breach the surface to feed.

The fourth circle of the Inferno. Here lie the sinner of those who hoarded or spent too much. Excessive accumulation of overwhelming amounts of wealth in life cost them to spend an eternity of pain as they bleed entire pools of gold. Demonic miners repurpose the sinnersí golden blood to create trinkets and idols in mockery of their prisoners. Beneath their pools lies a giant smelter which keeps the gold in liquid form as it burns the bodies of the sinners, forever.

The Inferno is where a soul endures eternal punishment. Here, the dead scream in agony in sectors attributed allegorically to their crimes in life:

1. Limbo: Where souls wander in darkness, searching for a beacon of hope.

2. Lust: Spirits are flung through the air in a perpetual hurricane.

3. Gluttony: Swallowed in excrement, souls eat until they burst from within.

4. Greed: Smelted into gold, these souls are drained like a resource.

5. Anger: Drowning in a bog, souls seek freedom but their wrath weighs heavy on them.

6. Heresy: Worshipping archdemons, demons torture souls with medieval machinery.

7. Violence: The River Phlegethon consumes souls in boiling blood.

8. Fraud: A dark smog incapacitates vision, guarded by the sentries of Nether Hell.

9. Treachery: The coldest and furthest point from Paradise. Lord Satan’s lair.

The sixth circle of the Inferno and the first circle of Nether Hell. Here, Hell’s denizens worship their deity Satan led by the infamous archdemon, Baphomet. Throughout history, heretics have been slain by religions around the world. By creating their own church within the recesses of Hell in the infernal city of Dis, they mock the very fabric of these institutions.

Inside the church, heretical souls are tortured with medieval machinery and those who are sacrificed to the archdemon suffer an agonizing death from his jaws. Those who committed sacrificial offerings lie within the sewers of Dis, burning beneath the blood of their victims.

Morgana’s sister, Isabelle, was her beacon of hope. At a young age, Morgana received a teddy bear from Isabelle as a gift which used to belong to their loving mother. To Morgana, it symbolized the good in the world. But, on that fateful day when Isabelle was murdered by their father, that hope was completely extinguished.

Since then, Morgana fell into despair. She kept her teddy bear to bring her company at night when she felt alone. The memory of Isabelle is a sad one, and continues to haunt Morgana to the end of her days. Isabelle’s soul remains in Paradise with their mother’s, but her energy still lingers within the teddy bear.

Archdemon of hypocrites, Legassa resides in the realm of Fraud. This demon lingers within the blood of sinners, expanding itself until it explodes them into pools of bloody sludge. At times, Legassa will confront these spirits in the form of a blackened dog. The demon takes great pleasure in toying with its victims, eager to observe their unfortunate demise.

The largest ambassador of Hell, Leviathan is oddly nowhere to be found in the Inferno. The last time Leviathan was free to wreck havoc across the realms of the afterlife was the last time Paradise and the Inferno engaged in all-out war. Leviathan was then captured and imprisoned by the armies of Paradise in Purgatory, leaving the Inferno one ambassador short in its army.

The Inferno remembers Leviathan in the circle of Heresy, where they worship the deity led by Baphomet. The sewers of Dis resemble that of Leviathan’s gaping mouth, and the system itself resembles that of its seemingly infinite body.

The first circle of the Inferno. Limbo is a unique punishment. It is unlike any of the other circles in Hell. Built in the form of Roman architecture, it insults the philosophers who dared to dream. Here, souls sit in darkness alone in their thoughts waiting for a heavenly light to save them from eternal boredom. As a parasite clings to each soul, it taunts them endlessly until the soul thrashes out upon others. However, this parasite recedes when light enters the room. It is their only moment of silence.

Any light that shines in Limbo appears to these souls as a heavenly spirit that is looking to take them to Paradise. As the distressed soul approaches the heavenly figure, they begin to decay and the heavenly mirage begins to rot and fade in reflection. When the damned soul gets closer, their skin rips away while their bones turn to dust along with the heavenly spirit. They are reborn again into darkness, filled with the painful betrayal of their hopes and dreams. All they can do is sit and think until they can no longer...

Known as “The Shining One”, Lucifer is the original name of the Dark Lord of Hell. The malevolence of this primordial knows no bounds as he gnaws on the most traitorous of souls in the furthest reaches of the Inferno, trapped within the ice of Lake Cocytus.

Luciferís story is a complex one. It resonates throughout the realms of the afterlife, spoken of in legends to serve as wisdom to individuals on their pilgrimage toward Paradise.

The second circle of the Inferno. The ravaging storm that takes place in the second circle of Hell sweeps all lustful souls away, crashing them into debris and other souls. The souls are as brittle as sand amongst the wettest of environments, making them vulnerable to collision. The hurricane never stops as the souls continue to excrete fluids that rain down upon the third circle below them. Demons that reside in Lust represent the façade of lechery, alluring one to think them harmless. To their dismay, it will be too late by the time they realize the true power they unleash upon them.

Archdemon to the grafters of Fraud, the serpentine Malacoda traps his victims’ souls inside the body of the undead. These walking prisons cling to their respective souls like a parasite, making them hard to move around within the already thick and boiling tar of this sector of the Malebolge. Their only relief is to be caught within the eye of a cyclops, but is quickly rescinded by the sadistic Malebranche as they are pulled back into the pitch.

Malacoda uses the poison of his silver tongue to convert these politically corrupt sinners into the mindless “sheep” they once governed and unfairly took advantage of. He revels in their endless torment.

The Malebolge lies in the eighth circle: Fraud. The Malebolge divides fraud into different levels and punishments. Many demons terrorize the souls that live here in an unrelenting pursuit, eager to torment them until they go hollow.

The Malebolge consists of ten mini-circles:

1. Panderers and Seducers - where demons thrash furiously at these sinners with notched whips.

2. Excessive Flattery - drowns souls in pools of excrement.

3. Simoniacs - A burial ground where souls are cooked below the surface, with only their feet protruding above ground.

4. Sorcerers - location of the demonic Sisters of Fate, where demons consume those whose heads are turned backwards.

5. Grafters and the Malebranche - sinners bask in pools of burning tar, tortured by the infamous Malebranche demons for their political corruption, led by Malacoda.

6. Hypocrites - Cloaked in robes made of lead, these souls can barely walk as they constantly feel the poison seeping into their veins. They are highly combustible. The demon Legassa occupies this wasteland.

7. Thieves - Hidden underground, the circle of thieves punishes these sinner within complete darkness. Surrounded by banshees, this labyrinth is incredibly deadly. If a soul accidentally looks upon a bansheeís face with light, they will anger the demon into a fit of rage.

8. Corrupted - The hottest of all circles, these charred souls burn within pools of lava. The great demon-dragon Cacus flies around the central spire. mutilating and consuming them.

9. Schism - Inside the tower lies a gladiator pit, housing the most skilled demon of all: Muramasa. Trained in the ways of the samurai, Muramasa slices all the souls he encounters into tiny pieces relentlessly.

10. Falsifiers - The last point of Fraud, these souls are caged and isolated. They suffer from the worst diseases, viruses and plagues the worldís ever known.

Ambassadors of Hell, the Malebranche reside in the circle of Fraud. They torture corrupt political frauds with pitch forks and claws with a feral, sadistic pleasure. They organize under Malacoda, the great deceiver, and pose a significant threat to Dante and Virgil’s progress in the Malebolge.

Archdemon of Greed, Mammon resides inside this circle’s giant fortress. The “Vaults of Mammon” store its enormous collection of idols, gold, and treasures made by the blood of Greed’s sinners. Mammon is rather docile unless someone touches its items. Thieves should be wary, for Mammon is quicker than it looks. Unless its possessions are returned to it, Mammon will imprison those thieves within its fiery vaults as they melt away underneath the boiling smelter which cooks the sinners of Greed outside the fortress. Instantly hollowed by the powerful smelter, the melted souls are transferred to the moat that surrounds the fortress.

An archangel of Paradise, Michael descends into the Inferno to assist Dante and Virgil in facing against the Prince of Darkness. He guides the two into Purgatory after their encounter, allowing them to continue their journey.

Index: Chapter 23 - “Lake Cocytus” Chapter

The little girl in “A Song of the Night: Part I” and the mother of Dante, Morgana has mysterious ties to Evil and undeniable importance to the fate of those around her. Already damned, she attempts to redeem herself by saving her son from the Inferno after trading the blood of her lineage for freedom. Instead of gaining freedom, she is met with a curse and damned to be Evilís prisoner in the Inferno.

Called the “Mother of Night” in the Inferno, Morgana’s spiritual essence fuels Satan with an emotional power strong enough to break his prison’s shackles. Time is of the essence to help her son escape the tribulations of Hell before Evilís bestowed curse consumes her soul entirely. This unique curse grants her a limited power which devours her soul the more she uses it to help Dante.

Archdemon of schism, Muramasa presents itself with frighteningly abnormal swordsmanship. Equipped with a magical katana that flies through the air, Muramasa cuts the sinners of discord inside the gladiator pit within the central spire of the Malebolge. 

Muramasa’s cursed blade is as conscious as the demonic samurai itself, with an insatiable thirst for blood. Forbidden to leave its lair, the denizens of Hell keep Muramasa at bay in the circle of schism in fear of it raining havoc amongst the rest of the Inferno. This makes the demon a very unique prisoner of its own domain.

Filled with spells and black magic, the Necronomicon was the focus of Adamís studies. Adam struggled to find a way to use the book to serve the Dark Lord, but to no avail. It is only when Morgana picked up the book that it reacted to her spiritual essence, tethering her to Evil’s influence. Its original authors are unknown, but some believe it to have either been written or influenced by the Sisters of Fate.

Known as the Almighty, Jehovah, Zeus and many other names, Order is the creator of life and the afterlife realms. Order created consciousness and free will, giving the world (that could have otherwise been perfect) an organic, natural beauty.

Should a realm of the afterlife experience insurmountable unrest, Order will lose control. This gives Chaos strength until it can awaken from its deep slumber to consume the universe and reset the cycle of life.

Paradise is the goal for every soul on Earth. However, Paradise is a selective place and only invites those who have committed truly good deeds in life. Souls in Paradise must work towards elevating their consciousness in order to be closer to their creator through transcendence by acts of good deeds and true morale.

Divided into “Spheres of Knowledge”, each place among Paradise challenges its souls to be a better person. Should a soul lack the will to better themselves, they will be cast back to Purgatory and sentenced to try again. When a soul formally becomes an angel, they are safe from the banishment of the spheres unless they commit an immoral act.

Forged by the titan, War, the Philosopherís Stone wields the power of phantasmic immortality. Any soul that wields it will never hollow or be destroyed. To use its prolific power, its bearer must commit to a symbiotic relationship with the stone. 

Harnessing the essence of its hostís soul, the stone will draw forth an insurmountable, god-like power that will deform its user the longer they hold onto it. To relieve the parasitic stone, one must use an item infused with the power of Order and Chaos to break its defenses and expose it, then pierce it with a powerful heavenly weapon, effectively killing the host.

The river of fire. The Phlegethon is the third river of Hell and boils the souls of violence in searing temperatures. Guarded by centaurs across the river bank, souls are shot back into the river with every attempt to escape. The more that a person had shed blood in life, the deeper they are submerged in the river.

The nearby woods of suicide feed off the river’s blood. Each tree holds hostage a spirit that has taken their own life, rendering them faceless. Beyond the woods lies a sea of sand while the river runs underneath, tainting the sand a reddish color.

The spiritual world between Heaven and Hell. Purgatory takes on the form of an earthly forest and mountain, surrounded by an endless sea. Dante meets Virgil here before they enter the gates of Hell. The mountain is terraced, with a winding path to reach its summit. Souls must pass through Purgatory’s trials in order to reach their coveted place in Paradise.

Satan is the title of the archangel Lucifer. Defiler, traitor, and the supreme Prince of Darkness, Satan is a demigod who was cast from the heavens to rule over its antithesis, Hell, and remain keeper of the titans. After betraying Paradise, Satan sat entombed to his prison plotting against the rule of Order for eons.

Though not as powerful as the faction of Chaos that gave him the Philosopher’s Stone, Satan has a long history of corruption and ambition behind him. Much of that which attributed to his downfall.

The Styx, also known as the river of hate, is the second river of Hell and drowns the wrathful and the sullen. The Styx leads to the gates of the infernal city of Dis, guarded by the Furies. Passing them is no easy task.

The river is very active and similar to the worst of earth’s white water rapids. Deadly and exciting, the journey from the docks of Greed to the harbors of Dis are an adventure in and of itself.

Primordial, ethereal beings that work together as the faction of Chaos. They are entombed within the ice of Hell’s ninth circle, Treachery. Not much is known about them other than they hold chaotic frightening power capable of bringing forth the apocalypse, terrifying even for the Almighty. They were banished to Hell to stay as far away as they could be from Paradise in the hopes of preventing the Day of Reckoning. Here, they sleep until the influence of Order is weakened.

The ninth and final circle of the Inferno. Within Treachery lies the worst of souls. These were the ones who committed betrayal toward their kin, benefactors, and the Almighty. Frozen from the shores to the body of Lake Cocytus, Treachery poses the harshest punishment to all who reside within its icy cave.

They can only hear their own thoughts, unable to move whilst they reminisce of sweet freedom. They are a prisoner to their own minds, suffering from the slow and painful frostbite for committing the coldest of sins. Protected by the ice, they will never hollow and are damned to remain completely conscious, filled with regret for all eternity.

1. The Phlegethon - where souls are boiled for the bloodshed they spilt in life.

3. The Sands of Abominations - where souls wander endlessly throughout a desert as embers rain from above for committing violence in the name of their deity.

Guide and friend to Dante, Virgil’s mission is to help Dante through the afterlife and seek salvation. Virgil was never told why, but trusts in the Almighty of Paradise that there is a good reason for bringing a damned soul to Paradise. Virgil is among the conscious wise in Heaven and is here to help Dante in order to be closer to the Almighty.

One of four titanic forces of Chaos, War feeds off the devastation of conflict. A blacksmith of sorts, War forged the unique and powerful weapons of the titans. Creator of the Philosopher’s Stone, War’s intention was to provide its user with the power of god-like strength with the promise of immortality effectively making the bearer a demigod. War created other universal stones as prototypes to the inevitable Philosopher’s Stone, including the Stone of Geryon.

The fifth circle of the Inferno and also the only one to be engulfed by an entire river. On the surface, the angriest of souls writhe and fight each other to no end. They seek to drown their neighbors and passersby while cursing and shouting derogatory words. The sullen are submerged and immobile. They are constantly feeling the pain of drowning for bottling up their anger deep inside. All along the river, wraiths contribute to the onslaught and create turbulence and whirlpools.

Wrath is the last circle of Upper Hell before entering the gates of Dis.
